Robert L. Gatewood is an entrepreneur, educator, and advocate for economic justice whose life’s work is focused on helping small businesses thrive. Raised by a sharecropping Baptist minister and a devoted homemaker, he learned early the values of independence, resilience, and community responsibility. By age eight he was running the family grocery store, and by thirteen he launched his first business—shaping a lifelong belief that success is built, not given.

Gatewood earned a degree in Pre-Law and Political Science and later completed an MBA to strengthen his strategic and operational expertise. He also holds certifications in social media and, most recently, AI development, leveraging emerging technologies to drive practical, scalable growth for today’s entrepreneurs.

After serving in several corporate officer roles, Gatewood spent eight years as a technology consultant with the U.S. Small Business Administration, gaining firsthand insight into the digital marketing needs, challenges, and opportunities facing small and disadvantaged businesses competing for federal contracts. That experience sharpened his purpose and added a deeper layer of expertise to Gatewood Marketing, a firm dedicated to helping minority-owned, small, and startup businesses compete, grow, and sustain long-term success.

As an adjunct professor at Prince George’s Community College, author of two books, and creator of the Marketing Pulpit Radio Show, Gatewood uses education, media, and strategy to remove barriers and expand opportunity.
